The AI trades. People set every limit.
Chain Grove has been trading digital assets since 2021, pairing an always-on AI system with a risk committee drawn from institutional trading, quantitative research and market infrastructure. The AI never gets a limit it can override; the committee never touches a trade fast enough to need one.
Markets move faster than a desk can
Crypto markets trade continuously, across dozens of venues, with funding rates and liquidity shifting by the minute. Our systematic and leverage engines are built to read all of it at once and act in milliseconds — a speed and breadth no trading desk staffed by people can sustain for more than a few hours a day.
Speed is not the same as judgment
An algorithm optimised for return will use every unit of leverage you let it. So the risk committee — not the model — decides how much leverage each engine is ever allowed, reviews every venture deal individually, and holds the keys that move reserve capital. The AI can act inside the fence; it cannot move the fence.
Who we are
In plain termsChain Grove is a digital asset fund. You deposit crypto, we put it to work across four strategies, and you watch what happens from your own dashboard. That’s the whole product. Everything below is just detail about how we try to do it well.
You keep the simple part simple
Open an account, send crypto, and that’s you done. No paperwork marathon, no minimum ticket, no waiting for a subscription window to open. Your account value updates as we report performance, and you can withdraw by asking.
We do the part that takes a desk
Running crypto positions properly means watching funding rates at three in the morning, moving collateral between venues, and knowing when to size down. Our systems do that continuously so you don’t have to think about it.
You can always see what’s happening
Every deposit, every withdrawal, every performance movement is listed in your account with a date and a figure. Statements and a transaction history download as PDFs whenever you want them, for any period you choose.
A person answers when you write
Message us from inside your account and you get a reply from someone who knows your file — usually the same day. Every client also has a named relationship manager rather than a support queue.
Four jobs, one account
Your deposit isn’t sitting in one trade. It’s spread across four things at once: a systematic book that trades liquid majors, a leveraged book that takes larger positions inside strict caps, a yield book that earns from lending and carry, and a small venture sleeve holding early positions. You see one number; underneath it four different things are working.
No surprises in the small print
We don’t lend your assets to a counterparty for a few extra points. We don’t hold reserves at an exchange because it’s convenient. We don’t raise a leverage cap because a trade looks good this week. Those three decisions are why 2022 cost us 3.5% instead of everything.
Built in 2021, tested in 2022
Chain Grove started trading in July 2021, near the top of a cycle. Eighteen months later most of the leveraged crypto industry had been through a credit unwind that took down lenders, funds and a major venue. We finished 2022 down 3.5% — not a heroic number, and not meant to be. It's the number that comes out of caps you don't raise when the trade looks good, collateral you don't rehypothecate, and reserves that sit in cold storage rather than at a venue earning a few points.
Market experience first, crypto second
The team came out of systematic macro, derivatives market-making, quantitative research and risk — between ten and twenty years each in traditional markets before digital assets. That order matters. Crypto rewards people who already know what a margin call, a liquidity gap and a correlated unwind look like, because it produces all three more often than any market they trained in.
How the split works
AI + committeeTrade the systematic & leveraged engines
Executes continuously inside pre-set leverage and exposure caps. No standing authority to redefine its own limits, add a new venue, or exceed the risk budget it was given.
Underwrite venture & seed
Every seed position is reviewed and individually approved before capital moves — illiquid capital gets human diligence, not an algorithm's confidence score.
Set leverage caps & allocation
Reviews and revises how much leverage each engine may use and how capital is split across all four, on a standing cadence — the boundaries the AI trades inside.
Hold the keys
Reserve custody requires two-of-three human multisig sign-off. No model, and no single person, can move fund assets alone.
Who runs it
Five principals · risk committeeChain Grove is run by five principals who between them cover trading, risk, custody and research. Each one owns a specific decision, and the table below says which. Full biographies are provided to investors during onboarding rather than published here.
Dashiell Moreau
Chairs the risk committee, owns capital allocation across the four engines, and has the final word on every venture position. Founded the fund in 2021 after a career on institutional trading desks.
Sydney Marsh
Joined at the founding in 2021, the first person to come across with Dashiell. Runs the systematic and leveraged engines day to day — how they reach the market, which venues they trade on, and the collateral behind them.
Isadora Vance
Sets the exposure and leverage ceilings the engines trade inside, and is the only person who can lower them mid-cycle. Reports independently of the trading function by design.
Andrew Chun
Holds one of the multisig keys, runs the deposit and withdrawal process, and decides how much capital is ever allowed to sit at a trading venue rather than in cold storage.
Linh Duong-Carter
Builds and retires the models the systematic engine trades, and owns the evidence standard a strategy has to clear before it is given capital — and the one that takes it away again.
